Welcome to i-Immersion’s Tot & Parent Class!

Congratulations on starting your child’s language-learning experience at an early age. Together, we will help your child build cognitive skills, communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and make new friends! At i-Immersion, we believe that every child should learn a second language and can learn a second language. We’re happy that you share this belief!

What to Expect: Class Structure

• I-Immersion’s classes are typically offered once or twice a week for 45 minutes. Twice a week more than doubles your child’s learning!
• Adventure Learning, our unique approach to teaching children languages, is based on tested language-instruction techniques including Total Physical Response, the Rassias Method and the Multiple Intelligence Theory.
• We build our classes around stories, movement, music, tactile play and simple physical and verbal challenges that help your child learn in the way that is best suited to them.

Note: Our classes are not for bashful adults! We ask you to participate actively. If you do not speak the target language, please don’t worry; we work hard to ensure that both children and adults can follow along!

What to Expect: Progress and Development

• Children absorb new languages at different rates. Don’t despair if your child isn’t speaking sentences, or even words, after a couple of months.
• Our youngest students first respond to target language commands with actions or simple attention, often uttering words and phrases months later.
• Research shows that while you may not notice the full effect for years, forming an early foundation is the best way to learn another language, and with a native accent.
  • To accelerate your child’s language acquisition, we recommend providing as much exposure as possible through music, stories and games. Our CDs, adventure-themed storybooks and flashcards are ideal for reinforcing learning at home.
• Finally, we will send e-mails every couple of weeks with suggestions for ensuring that learning goes on outside of our classes.

Our Teachers

• Our teachers are native or bilingual speakers with extensive experience working with children. They are committed to your child learning a new language and experiencing other cultures.
• They are always striving to teach their students better, so feel free to offer them feedback as to how they can better reach your child.
• You will have the opportunity to schedule a brief conference with your teacher at the end of every session to go over specific questions about your child’s progress.

Your Role in your Child’s I-Immersion Experience

• Regardless of whether you choose to bring your child once or twice a week, we ask that you bring your child as regularly as possible.

• Because our classes work best when you are able to devote full attention to your child, we ask that you use your discretion in bringing other children to class. We recognize this may pose a challenge, but we also know that children too young to participate in our class can distract their siblings or other students. Of course, it is up to you to determine what is best.

• We also ask that you make every effort to communicate only in the target language and refrain from translating for your child, as this may actually slow your child’s language acquisition.

• If your child won’t be able to attend a class, we invite you to attend any other i-Immersion Tot & Parent class. To reserve a spot, simply speak with your teacher.

Billing & Scheduling

• I-Immersion families typically enroll for a seasonal session of up to 15 weeks.
• Prices vary, depending on the number of classes in a session.
• Our classes fill quickly, so we recommend that you enroll at the beginning of a session.
• If there is room in a class, you may enroll at any time during a session, and your fees will be prorated at select locations.
• We occasionally need to combine classes, to ensure a sufficient number of students. If we decide to do so, we will do our best to find a solution that fits your family’s schedule.

Re-enrollment

Because learning a language is a long-term endeavor, we hope you will re-enroll your child next session. To reserve a spot simply go to www.i-immersion.com and follow instructions to re-enroll.

WINTER CAMP IS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION! (K-Grade 5)

Little Chef Espanõl & Little Chef China

Winter camp is now open for early bird registration! If you are looking for something fun and academic to do during the winter break, then you definitely do not want to miss the Little Chef classes in Spanish or Mandarin! Students will learn to make healthy food while learning a foreign language and the culture.  This camp is available to Kindergartners through Grade 5.

Camp Dates & Fees:

12/21-12/23                        $129 half day; $250 full day

12/28-1/1                 $219 half day; $399 full-day

**Early Care (8:30-9am) and After Care (4-5:30pm) are available!

COME TAKE AN EXTENDED 90-MINUTE SPANISH CLASS!

The extended 90-minute full-immersion Lango Spanish class for preschoolers on Mondays from 1:00-2:30pm still has room for 3 more kids, so if you are interested in enrolling your child in a longer class session, call us or enroll online!

SUPPORT THE SAN CARLOS AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM!

From October to December, we are going to launch the Spanish afterschool in San Carlos on a part-time basis, serving families in the San Carlos, Belmont, and Redwood Shores communities.  Options include $299 per month for 2-days a week program, and $399 per month for 3 days a week.  Currently we have the most demand for Tuesdays and Thursdays class but no firm commitment from enough families to start this month. Please help us spread the word so that we can keep this program rolling and eventually offer the full-time program in January!

DID YOU GET YOUR CD AND FLASHCARDS?

Our teachers are recommending all families to purchase a copy of Con Cosmo (Spanish) or Wo Men Lai Tiao Wu (Mandarin) CD to reinforce class activities.  For older students, parents can also purchase our fall/winter flashcards for $7.  Please let your Maestra or Laoshi know if you want to purchase a set to practice at home!
