i-Immersion is pleased to offer our second year Mandarin afterschool program to families who are dedicated to growing their children’s foreign language skills! Goals and Expectations

• Commit to an affordable program for developing proficiency in the Mandarin language and literacy within the San Mateo community.
• Reinforce i-Immersion’s dedication to developing intellectual curiosity, cultural awareness, and linguistic capability.
• Ensure that students learn practical, functional language that they can use in communicating with individuals from different cultures
• Engage students in the language learning process by providing age-appropriate lessons and activities.

The Teaching Methods

The i-Immersion curriculum in the afterschool program focuses on a gradual immersion model in which children absorb foreign language in a natural way. Our teachers adjust the amount of Mandarin and English based on the content and the activity of the day. Children will learn pinyin and simplified Chinese.

• Foreign language classes in the afterschool program will be conducted using the following key aspects of proven techniques:
• Exploring and Discovery Approach (EDA)- helps students acquire foreign language in natural and age-appropriate ways.
• Total Physical Response Storytelling (TPRS)- integrates gestures and creative embellishment of stories to engage students.
• Multiple Intelligences- ensures students are exposed to diversified content that are suited to their individual learning styles.The

The i-Immersion Activity Blocks

i-Immersion’s afterschool program provides students with a full immersion environment where active language play and instruction is conducted daily. The program offers children in kindergarten through the fifth grade a rich and varied schedule, which balances routine with new events and activities to keep kids engaged in their language learning. Students in the afterschool program are guided towards target language fluency through what we called Activity Blocks.

What You Can Expect

i-Immersion aims at providing a high quality immersion program that achieves the following:

• Curriculum meeting the California Teaching Standards.
• Oral and written proficiency in Mandarin and Spanish.
• Committed teachers who conduct structured activities.
• Exposure to the cultures that drives language learning.
• Dedicated administrative team that provides logistical and administrative support at all times.
• Qualified teachers who passed California Department of Justice screening, TB clearance, i-Immersion teacher training, and scheduled class observations.

Program Hours and Schedule

The afterschool program in San Mateo meets Mondays through Fridays after school from 12:00-6:00 P.M. The teacher-to-student ratio is 1:8.

Please note, for kindergartners who still require nap or rest time, participants should be carefully considered by parents.

Pick-up Service

Pick-up service is available at select school sites for an additional $100 per month. We do not pick up from your home. Pick-up may be canceled with a 30-day written notice. You must confirm the days of pick-up on your contract to help us set-up a pre-payment plan along with your afterschool fees. Pre-payment may not be refunded or credited for future use.

Rates

We require a one-year contract. If you discontinue with the program, you will still be responsible for the monthly fee of your child’s enrollment.

· 12:00-6:00 P.M. $725/month
